The Mecana Ecohotel is located on the beach of Playa Mecana, just outside the main village of Bahía Solano, in the department of Chocó on Colombia’s Pacific coast. This accommodation is located in the heart of a 168-170 hectare nature reservecombining rainforest, mangroves and direct access to the ocean – an exceptional setting for travelers in search of nature, peace andtotal immersion. From the port of Bahía Solano, it takes around 10 minutes by boat to reach Playa Mecana and the Ecohotel.

The Mecana Ecohotel offers wooden cabins that are perfectly integrated into the natural environment. The modest but charming accommodations include bedrooms with private bathrooms and showers, and terraces or balconies often offering a view of the sea or surrounding vegetation. It’s a place where tropical jungle meetsocean, set between sea and forest in a lush natural environment – beach, dense vegetation and wild ambience. It offers easy access to the village while guaranteeing total immersion in nature, ideal for travelers in search of peace and quiet.

Rooms and style / architecture

The ecolodge features wooden cabins built with respect for the environment and local biodiversity. Accommodations are simple but comfortable, with mosquito-protected beds, private bathrooms and balconies or terraces, some with sea or jungle views. Thearchitecture uses local materials, mainly certified wood, and blends harmoniously into the landscape with natural paths, green spaces and a rustic ambiance, for an authentic, immersive stay in nature.

Services and equipment

Playa Alegre Ecolodge offers a restaurant-bar (we stayed on an all-inclusive basis, and from breakfast to dinner, every meal was delicious!), green spaces, pleasant common areas and Wi-Fi access. The facility implements environmentally-friendly practices such as recycling, composting, waste reduction and the use of sustainable materials, helping to preserve local flora and fauna. It’s also the starting point for jungle hikes, sea outings (snorkeling, whale watching, depending on the season), canoe or dug-out canoe trips and access to the region’s natural pools. The atmosphere is warm, friendly and respectful, perfect for couples, families or solo travelers looking for total immersion in the Colombian Pacific.
