Visit the Orinoquía

Geography: Orinoquía, in eastern Colombia, covers some 253,000 ^km2, and is 75% plains and 25% forest. Bordered by the Meta and Orinoco rivers, this region is an ecosystem rich in biodiversity, with endless plains, savannahs and tropical forests. 4 departments make up this region: Arauca, Casanare, Meta and Vichada.

Demographics: The region has a population of around 1.6 million, representing just 3% of the total Colombian population! The main towns are Acacias, Aguazul, Arauca, Granada, Puerto López, Tame, Villavicencio and Yopal. The llaneros, local cattle breeders, are at the heart of rural life.

Economy: Orinoquía’s economy is based on agriculture and livestock, with the llaneros playing a key role in this dynamic. The region is a major producer of beef and agricultural products such as rice. Natural resources such as oil and coal also contribute to its economy, making it a strategic region for industrial development.
