Note: For the camera, we chose a micro 4/3, a format particularly well-suited to travel. More compact and lighter than a full frame, it significantly reduces the weight of the body and lenses, without sacrificing image quality. It also offers excellent stabilization, great optical versatility and more affordable pricing. When traveling, these advantages make all the difference: less clutter, greater responsiveness and more freedom for everyday photography and filming.
Presentation
The Panasonic Lumix G Vario 100-300 mm f/4-5.6 Power O.I.S. is a telephoto lens designed for travelers who want to capture distant subjects without multiplying focal lengths. With a focal range of 100-300mm (or 200-600mm in 35mm equivalent), it lets you photograph wildlife, sports scenes, architectural details or distant landscapes with great flexibility. Lightweight and relatively compact for a telephoto zoom of this range, it remains a good compromise between performance and portability for hiking or nature outings. Integrated Power O.I.S. optical stabilization helps reduce vibrations when shooting handheld, which is particularly useful for variable-light photography or 4K video sequences. Its rugged design resists dust and splashes, giving you extra peace of mind when exploring different environments on the move.

Our opinion
On our excursions, we’ve found that this lens offers impressive reach for exploring distant subjects, such as birds in flight deep in a jungle, distant rock formations or remote scenes of local life in the mountains. The extended focal range, combined with Power O.I.S. stabilization, enabled us to capture sharp images without the need for a tripod, which is a real plus when traveling on the move. We also appreciated its relative lightness for a telephoto lens in this category, which lightened the camera bag on long days of hiking. On the downside, the variable f/4-5.6 aperture isn’t ideal in very low-light conditions, and we sometimes felt that autofocus can be a little slow in high-contrast or dark scenes. Despite this, for documenting naturally intense moments or photographing wildlife and nature with great framing freedom, this telephoto lens remains a reliable and inspiring companion for our travels.
